Meet NOTE-able Singers

 
JUDY NURKKALA, Director

Director of NOTE-able Singers since 1994.  Studied voice privately and has sung with the University of Minnesota Chorus, Finlandia University Choir, Evangelica Cantanti and various ensembles.  Began studying piano in kindergarten.  Has been a church pianist, organist and choir director.  Accompanist for soloists and choral groups.  Played the clarinet in bands and ensembles.  Judy is now a private piano teacher. 



DAVID DAY, Accompanist


David is in his 7th year with NOTE-able Singers. He has played organ and sung in choirs and musical groups since he was 8.  He began playing piano at the age of 12.  David writes and arranges music and will begin recording a CD of original music this summer. 


KRYS BLUE,Mezzo

Krys has enjoyed singing since elementary school.  This is her second year with NOTE-able Singers.  Previously she has been a member of several choirs at Luther College where she studied with a vocal coach.  She was a member of the Northwestern Singers in Austin, MN and the St. Peter Choral Society.  Krys has also been in several musical productions including "Into the Woods", "South Pacific" and "Hello Dolly".


MARY NESSEL ERICKSEN, Soprano

Mary grew up in a musical family.  She studied piano when she was in grade school, enjoyed singing and dancing in high school and studied dance at MacPhail.  Prior to joining NOTE-able Singers, Mary sang with Sweet Adelines, a church choir and Mother Singers.  She is on the tap dancing team.


JILL HANSON, Mezzo

Jill comes from a performing arts family; growing up studied violin and piano, sang in church choir. Professional visual artist; sells her paintings through art shows and online. Also an art teacher; integrates music, movement and creative drama with art for kids. Jill is in her second year with NOTE-able Singers.  Thrilled to find an actual outlet for her proclivity toward bursting into show tunes and tapping out the rhythms of theme music on her car steering wheel.


JERRY KONEWKO, Mezzo

Jerry is in her second year with NOTE-able Singers.  She grew up in a musical family and played a variety of musical instruments, piano being her favorite.  She played in band and orchestra and sang in the church choir.  Jerry is a writer and currently studying banjo.

 
JANIS KROMMINGA, Alto

Janis is in her first year with NOTE-able Singers.  Her childhood was filled with music, with her favorite memory being her whole family singing around the piano.   She studied piano and guitar and and has sung in high school choir and church musicals.  She has continued the family tradition of music and has five children who play guitar, bass, drums, piano and sing and dance.


GINNY LAUGHINGHOUSE, Alto

Ginny was a charter member of NOTE-able Singers in 1974.  Was in many school and church choirs and also played clarinet in Princeton, New Jersey.  Has been a foster mom of medically fragile children since 1981 and chosen in 2004 as one of the "11 Who Care" for KARE 11-TV.  Ginny is on the tap dancing team.


DANA LEVINSON, Alto
 
Dana is thrilled to join NOTE-able Singers this year.  She performed in plays and musicals throughout her childhood, then spent time focusing on a business career.  After singing non-stop to her family around the house, Dana is happy to have another outlet for her passion for singing.
 


CHRYSTAL MARTY,  Soprano


This is Chrystal's first year with NOTE-able Singers.  She comes to us from Florida where she has been performing in choirs and ensembles since grade school.  She has a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Florida and studied music history in Mozart's hometown of Salzburg Austria.  Chrystal has sung in the University of Florida Concert Choir, Women's Chorale and Chamber singers, and recently with the Orlando chorale.

 

SHARYN MEAGHER, Soprano

When Sharyn was in High School, she toured 8 European countries with the School Chorus of America.  Piano and saxophone lessons in grade school preceded voice lessons from grade school through college at Indiana University.  She was also a featured soloist in community events and with the Oakland Symphony Chorus.

KATHY J OLSON, Soprano 


Kathy received K-12 vocal music education BA, cum laude, from Gustavus Adolphus College. She was selected as soloist for Gustavus Stage Band and studied voice in Vienna, Austria. She has been the vocal music director for adult church choirs and high school show choir as well as a K-12 vocal music teacher and professional singer. Kathy is the vocal coach and alternate director for NOTE-able Singers.

 

MELISSA STURDEVANT, Mezzo

Melissa comes to NOTE-able Singers this year with a diverse song and dance background, which began at the age of 3.  In high school she performed in Grease and Bye Bye Birdie and sang in jazz, concert and show choirs.  She has been a dance teacher and currently performs solos for weddings and other events.  Melissa is very excited to be part of NOTE-able Singers.


JUDY WEIGMAN, Soprano

Judy sang her first solo in church at age 4 and has been singing since.  She sang with church, school and college choirs, as well as delivering singing telegrams for Eastern Onion.  Judy sang with Bloomington's Generation Gap as well as Richfield's Singsation and also plays flute.  Judy is in her second year with NOTE-able Singers and has found that it helps to fill her passion for music.

 
 

GAIL WOLLIN, Alto 

Gail grew up in a musical family; her mother and aunt sang on the radio when they were in grade school.  Gail was in choirs throughout grade school and high school, now sings in the church choir and in yearly Christmas cantatas and has sung with the praise team.  Gail is an enthusiastic addition to NOTE-able Singers.
